How to count push-ups with your iPhone camera

Where to put the phone, how to get in frame, and what the counter needs to close a push-up. Four steps, no wearable.

1. Put the phone on the floor

Lean it against a wall, a bottle or a shoe, two to three meters away, camera facing you. Any height works. A three-quarter angle reads the most detail, but the counter also works straight on or from the side.

2. Get inside the four corners

Open Push-Ups in Strikt. The setup stage shows four corner brackets and one instruction: your whole body inside. Head, shoulders and hips are what matter; the feet may leave the frame. When the skeleton is steady, the countdown starts on its own.

3. Do the push-up

Lower the chest, press back up. The rep closes at the top and you hear one short sound. Speed is not required and there is no depth target: the counter looks for a completed cycle, and it measures depth for the recap instead of using it to refuse a rep.

4. Read the recap

When you stop, the set ends with the count, the time, the pace, the pauses, whether the second half held, and the camera angle. Knee push-ups are a separate movement, so choose them from the library when you want them counted as such.

  • Feet out of frame: fine, the counter follows shoulders and hips.
  • Backlight from a window: move the phone so the light is on you.
  • A rep not counted: check that the chest actually lowered and the elbows locked back out.
